Dear Members,

As we navigate through these pivotal times in hospital bargaining, your union is committed to keeping you informed and engaged with the latest developments. Our collective strength, unity, and unwavering dedication to our cause have never been more critical.

After engaging in four days of intensive mediation during January and February, CUPE reached an impasse and is now advancing to arbitration. Similarly, Following a week of bargaining in January and two additional days of mediation in February SEIU also reached an impasse and is proceeding to arbitration. These steps are crucial in our shared struggle to secure better working conditions and respect for hospital workers.

Unifor’s Northern Group, encompassing 15 units from Locals 229 and 1359, commenced their bargaining on February 13, 2024.

After three days of in-person bargaining from February 27 to 29, aimed at addressing both local and central issues, the master bargaining committee has decided to proceed with to mediation with the Ontario Hospital Association. Mediation is scheduled for May 4, 2024.

Our focus remains committed on key issues:

  • Securing fair wages that reflect the cost of living and address the critical recruitment and retention challenges in healthcare.
  • Upholding and preserving the quality of public health care for all Ontarians.
  • Addressing workload issues to ensure our members can provide the best care without compromise.
