This week I had the privilege of meeting with MPPs alongside incredible advocates, survivors, and activists to lobby for Bill 55 and the declaration of intimate partner violence as an epidemic in Ontario.
Every six days, a woman in Canada is killed by an intimate partner. Almost half of Canadian women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence. These are not isolated incidents. This is a public crisis.
Our sisters, siblings, daughters, friends, coworkers, and neighbours deserve safety. They deserve to be believed. They deserve action.
This week reminded me how powerful collective voices can be when we refuse to stay silent. Change happens when people are willing to have difficult conversations, push for accountability, and demand better.
We are urging the Ontario government to pass Bill 55 and formally recognize intimate partner violence as the epidemic it is.
